Members of the Mountain Rescue Service participated in a joint anti-terrorist exercise with members of the Ministry of the Interior, a special anti-terrorist unit, a helicopter unit, the gendarmerie and the Kraljevo Police Department.
Dejan Jovanović from the Mountain Rescue Service, who was at the exercise on Kopaonik, told RTS that they participated for the first time and that the Ministry of the Interior sent an invitation to that service.
The mountain service participated in this exercise with four rescuers. “Our task was to provide assistance to the injured after resolving the hostage situation. One group of rescuers provided assistance to the injured, on a snowmobile, while another rescuer evacuated the injured by helicopter, which is from the MUP unit,” said Jovanovic.
According to him, this is a significant experience and it happened at the invitation of the Ministry of the Interior. “We are glad that the Ministry of the Interior sent an invitation, and I hope that we will cooperate with them in the future,” Jovanović pointed out.
As he says, a story has been started with the Ministry of the Interior and in the future he will cooperate with them and participate in exercises.
Rescue equipment
Jovanovic said that they strive to renew the equipment and keep up with the trends. “It would mean a helicopter to us, and that is why we are cooperating with the Ministry of the Interior. We have a part of rescuers who are being trained to rescue by helicopter, so they will cooperate with the helicopter unit,” says Jovanović.
He believes that the exercises should be performed as often as possible, at least once or twice a month, so that the rescuers stay in shape.
Jovanovic says that the number of guests on Kopaonik has been reduced and told those who come to be prepared for the mountain, to have adequate equipment and clothes, because they are injured due to unpreparedness and that is why the Mountain Service has work to do.
