Flights at Dubai International Airport were delayed on Saturday with some cancellations due to flooding.
“Dubai Airports can confirm that Dubai International (DXB) has disrupted operations today due to heavy rainfall and flooding,” an official said.
“We are working closely with our service partners to be fully operational again as soon as possible. However, flight delays are expected to continue throughout the day and some cancellations and diversions to Dubai World Central (DWC) are expected.”
Passengers were asked to check the revised times with the airlines and allow sufficient time to reach the airport.
The Road and Transport Authority urged residents to use the Dubai subway to avoid the rumbling of traffic as commuters said they were stranded on the streets for hours.
Traffic officials said service centers, vehicle inspection centers and driving institutes would remain closed on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions.
The National Meteorological Center sent out a warning warning residents to be extremely vigilant. The center forecast “dangerous weather events of exceptional severity” with thunder, heavy rain in the northern Emirates and eastern areas throughout the day.
“Freezing rain” was expected in the mountain areas and the rain would continue for the next two days, the center said.
Cool temperatures will persist across the country, with mercury expected to drop 4 to 6 degrees over the week.
Mountain areas like Jebel Jais have minimum temperatures of only 0 ° C, inner areas are between 9 ° C and 14 ° C and coastal areas remain at 10 ° C to 15 ° C.
“The main warning now is over the sea with strong northwest winds over the Arabian Gulf and Oman.”
Wind speeds in the Arabian Gulf were 30 knots with waves up to 12 feet.
The rain is expected to continue on Sunday in the northern, eastern and southern areas from Ras Al Khaimah, Al Ain to Asab.
