Alexei Pushkov described Ankara’s reaction to Joseph Biden’s statement that the massacre of Armenians was genocide as “a great storm, but in a glass of water”.
“Relations with France, Germany and others have strained a bit, but they have been preserved. Turkey has not left NATO, nor will it. It will most likely be the same with Erdogan’s reaction to Biden’s decision – a big storm, but in a glass of water “, wrote Pushkov on his channel on the Telegram.
He added that Biden’s step would in no way contribute to improving relations between Turkey and the United States.
According to the senator, many of Turkey’s NATO allies have long acknowledged that genocide was committed, and in some European countries, denying it is punishable by law.
Pushkov reminded that French President Emanuel Macron had earlier declared April 24 as the national day of remembrance of the genocide over the Armenians.
As the senator said, Ankara responded to that only with diplomatic demarches.
