Practically, it is possible to leave the house only for the purpose of buying basic groceries, going to work if necessary, as well as for exercising, exclusively in the circle of members of the same household.
Everyone who was on the road when the decision to close came into force was given 48 hours to return home.
At this moment, Prime Minister Ardern expects that the lock-in at the national level will last only three days, with Auckland and the Karamedal Peninsula likely to be closed for a week.
