The Austrian government has agreed on the rules for the so-called “Green Passport”, a certificate that will enable vaccinated, cured of the crown, as well as negatively tested people to enter catering facilities, hotels, but also contribute to free travel again.
Health Minister Wolfgang Mickstein pointed out that the document would exist in digital as well as analog format. Internationally, the system will be technically applied from the summer, but each country will still decide independently when and under what conditions it is released into the country, he explained.
According to him, the “Green Passport” will be able to be “read” everywhere via the QR code from July, but it is possible that different rules will apply from country to country for how long a person needs to be vaccinated in order to enter, or for how long valid PCR test,…
Also, not everything is fixed in Austria yet, as Mikstein said, so, according to him, there is a need to discuss whether only vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) will be accepted or whether Chinese Sinofarm will be accepted, ie. russian Sputnik V vaccine.
It is unlikely that only a test with antibodies will be accepted, because experts say that it is difficult to determine the limit values.
The “green passport” will be introduced in Austria in three phases, as previously announced.
The first phase starts on May 19, when the first major easing of measures is planned, so that a vaccination certificate, a certificate of cure, or a negative test will be valid as a ticket for catering facilities and events. Home tests will also be accepted, but only 24 hours old, while the antigen test will be valid for 48 hours and the PCR test for 72 hours.
A person who has had a crown in the past six months will be accepted as cured. As far as the vaccinated are concerned, “freedom” will be able to be used by those who have passed three weeks since the first vaccine. Those who do not come for the second dose of the vaccine lose those “freedoms”, Mikstein added.
When it comes to how much the vaccine is “valid”, he said that it should be determined at the EU level, but that he assumes that an agreement will be reached for it to be for eight or nine months.
The second phase starts on June 4, when it will be digitally applied at the national level.
The digital certificate will be available for download at www.gesundheit.gv.at.
It will also be possible to get it through a health e-Card, for which it will be necessary for the service provider to have an application for reading the insurance number and other data.
The “green passport” will be finalized in July, when it is expected to be completed in the EU.
