From a baby who couldn’t hold her neck on her own, little Sofia today plays with toys, sits on her own … her childhood turned around after receiving therapy.
Sofia spent the happiest Christian holiday at home, with her family in Belgrade.
Her dad posted a photo of Sofia with an Easter card, with two words that say a lot – “rejoice”.
The little heroine made Easter eggs happy, and made many put a finger on their foreheads and realize that so little is needed for happiness.
A month after the birth, the problems started
As a reminder, Sofia was born as a completely healthy child with a grade of 9, but in the second month she completely lost the power to move her arms.
Thanks to the exceptional expertise of the doctor, with two and a half months of her life, they determined a rare, but extremely progressive and fatal neuromuscular disease called – Spinal muscular atrophy type I.
The citizens of our country united and with incredible speed they managed to collect the money that enabled Sofia to 2.9.2020. receive Zolgensma therapy that saves her life.
SMA weakens all muscles and progresses faster or slower depending on the type of disease. The most severe and common type is type 1 (Verdnig-Hoffmann), and patients with it usually live up to two years, although many do not even live to see their first birthday.
