Pupils receive a blessing from father Aleksandar Ivanović
The Serbian church school “Rastko”, which works at the Church of the Holy Archdeacon Stefan in the Sydney settlement of Ruth Hill, marked the beginning of the new year last Friday.
In this temple in the northwest of the largest Australian city, an akathist was served to the Most Holy Mother of God on that day, and then a prayer service was held for the beginning of a successful school year.
As Father Aleksandar Ivanović pointed out in his sermon, academic education is very important, however, for the correct understanding and use of academic training, we need God’s help first of all.
– Only in communion with God, our intellectual improvement and adoption of new knowledge contributes to the true education, that is, the renewal of the image of God in us – said the elder of the temple in Ruth Hill.
Detail from the prayer on the occasion of the first day of school
After the prayer, classes at the Serbian school “Rastko” began with church-folk singing, followed by classes in religious studies, Serbian language and folklore.
“In our school, all activities are designed so that the temple as a place of prayer and prayer itself is at the center of events, and that the children themselves participate in the liturgical life of the Church. Together with parents and all parishioners, we are making efforts to promote the school with the goal of teaching our children faith and prayer from an early age, “it was pointed out on the official website of the Church-School Municipality of St. Archdeacon Stefan in Ruth Hill.
