The Daily Tribune –

Pakistan will buy 1.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine from China’s Sinopharm, a minister said Thursday.

“The Cabinet Committee has decided to initially purchase 1.2 million doses of the vaccine from Chinese company Sinopharm, which will be made available for free to frontline workers in the first quarter of 2021,” the Pakistani Minister of Science and Technology said on Twitter.

The announcement comes after China on Thursday approved a Covid-19 vaccine developed by a subsidiary of the state-backed pharmaceutical giant Sinopharm. It is the first approved shot for the general public.

The approval announced by China’s National Medical Products Administration comes after the United Arab Emirates became the first country to open the vaccine to the public earlier this month.
