Milos Ninkovic Ninko
Serbian football ace Miloš Ninković was named the player of the season in Australia! The Sydney playmaker won the Johnny Warren Medal for the second time in his career, but this year he shared the prestigious award in equal parts with Ulysses Daville from Wellington Phoenix.
Namely, the Serb and the Mexican received the same number of points in the voting of the four-member expert jury, and it was decided that for the first time since this recognition is awarded, two winners will be announced. Ninković was previously selected as the player of the season in June 2017.
This year’s ceremony was held virtually due to the pandemic, and in a live video inclusion in a special show, Miloš Ninković and Ulysses Davili were announced that they are the winners of the Johnny Warren Medal for this season.
– Great! I really didn’t expect to win this big award again – the Serbian ace reacted a bit confused at first, thinking that he was invited from the studio to talk to him as one of the nominated players.
When he realized that he had actually entered the history of the A-League and Australian football, as only the second player to deserve this award twice (the first was former Brisbane ace Thomas Broysch in 2012 and 2014), Ninković thanked his teammates, the professional staff , the medical team and all Sydney fans.
– This is a really great recognition and I didn’t even think that I could equate with Thomas Broesch in the number of Johnny Warren medals won. I am extremely honored that the jury chose me, but as much as the individual awards are nice, I still prefer team trophies. I will repeat what I said four years ago and now, I would give this award for winning the grand final and for the championship cup with Sydney – Ninković said honestly.
Milos will have the opportunity to do so on Sunday night at Melbourne’s AAMI Park, when Melbourne City and Sydney FC will meet in the finals of this year’s A-League.
Unknown for the finals
Milos Ninkovic is still not a sure participant in the upcoming grand final of the A-league. Namely, the muscle injury due to which he missed the semifinals against Adelaide still torments the Serbian maestro, and he is not training at full capacity for now.
Sydney’s medical team is making maximum efforts to prepare Ninković, but it is not excluded that Miloš will start the finals from the bench.
