From one of the earlier services in the Church in Kabramati
The parishioners of the Cathedral of the Holy Great Martyr George from Kabramate in Sydney, led by the priest and elder of the church, Archbishop Đuro Đurđević, recently sent help to two families in the homeland.
Upon learning about the tragedy that befell the young Đurić family from Banja Luka, the believers from Kabramate and Father Đuro decided to come to their aid and alleviate the wounds as much as possible.
The young mother, 28-year-old Dušanka – Duja Đurić, became ill with the corona virus in the ninth month of pregnancy, as did her husband Nemanja, who somehow managed to recover, but with visible consequences. Dusanka’s doctors said that they could give birth to her and give the newborn a great chance of survival, but that her chances were not great, considering the degree of the disease.
The sacrificed mother Duja chose to save the baby, and whatever happens to her. The girl Mia was born, and the mother unfortunately passed away after a few days, leaving behind another, only slightly older daughter Marija.

– 7,000 dollars were collected from the believers and some from the contributions of the church, which were handed over by our Bishop of Australia and New Zealand, the Most Reverend Bishop Siluan, during his visit to his homeland and stay in Banja Luka. We are immensely grateful to him for the sacrifice and service – says Father Đuro, who has a habit of saying that “it is always more blissful to give than to receive”.
Another charity that the Kabramat church did was a gift to Risto Jovanović, an exemplary Serb from St. Sava’s Serbian Montenegro.

He added that “Rist’s only guilt was that at the Monument to the Holy Kosovo Warriors, he reacted when he saw the Siptar police harassing and searching a frequent Serbian nun.”
– In a calm tone, which was noticed by numerous cameras, he asked them not to touch the poor nun. At that, the Siptar policemen grabbed him, handcuffed him and took him to prison, where he was neither guilty nor obliged to spend a month. When he was presented in court as a “violator of the law”, saying that he was a Montenegrin Risto Jovanović from Podgorica, he, like the young deacon Habakkuk, when the Turks took him to court and execution site in Belgrade, said: “A Serb rejoices in death – there is no better Faith than Christ’s “. That is how Risto told them that he is not a Montenegrin, but a Serb from Montenegro – adds Father Đurđević.
As a sign of gratitude, the Kabramat Church of St. George, from its own money and from the contributions of the faithful, collected 4,000 dollars, which were handed to Risto and his family by Bishop Siluan in the church home in Podgorica, together with Bishop Kiril.

Helping little ones without a mother
“We will not stop at this”; said Father Đuro and announced that the Kabramat parish will continue to send help to those who need it the most.
– The next action, as soon as the measures in Sydney are eased a little, and the believers will be able to come to the holy temple to pray, we will start collecting help for the family of Biljana Kokić from Bosanski Brod, who recently passed away and left behind ten weak children. Our believers will be informed about everything in a timely manner, so that we can start collecting donations as soon as possible – said Father Đuro.
