Timely action by the Bahraini security authorities prevented a major tragedy yesterday when they foiled two separate attempts to bomb ATMs on two busy streets.
Security forces discovered the bombs planted in the ATMs of a national bank in the capital’s governorate and quickly disarmed them.
The bombs were found at the ATMs in Nuaim and Jidhafs.
The Interior Ministry said the bombs had been placed in the locations at different times on Wednesday morning.
Explosives disposal teams worked to detect the explosives and distribute them safely without incident.
The Bahraini security authorities are conducting an investigation in cooperation with the National Security Agency.
Police discovered and arrested several suspects based on evidence at the scene and forensic investigation.
Initial investigations revealed that the two operations were implemented by distributing roles among the suspects.
Some of the suspects were involved in the planning part.
“The security agencies concerned, in cooperation with the National Security Agency, foiled two terrorist attacks aimed at blowing up two ATMs of one of the national banks in the al-Naim and Jidhaf areas in the capital’s governorate,” the statement said.
The General Directorate of Criminal Police and Forensics has taken legal action to refer the case to the prosecutor.
Cowardly acts of terrorism
In a statement, the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security, headed by Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, commended the security services and the National Intelligence Service for preventing the terrorist attacks.
The committee, which described the incidents as “cowardly acts of terrorism,” said the plans are aimed at threatening security and stability and endangering the lives of innocent people.
Al-Buainain reiterated its full support for all legal measures to maintain security, protect the lives of community members, vital facilities and cultural achievements.
