The United States has transferred several hundred Black Hawk soldiers and helicopters from Georgia from the Rammstein air base in Germany to participate in the multinational military exercises “Agile Spirit 2021”, the press service of the Georgian Ministry of Defense announced.
“On the eve of the official opening of military exercises, soldiers and military equipment from different countries arrive in Georgia by air and sea. “On the cargo ship ‘Obiriks’ in the port of Poti in Georgia, armored hammers (HMMWV) belonging to the 173rd Infantry Brigade of the US Military Police have already arrived, as well as various types of logistics equipment,” the statement said.
As specified, the helicopters will participate in the exercises in the part related to the provision of medical assistance and evacuation.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Georgia announced that the annual military exercises “Ajil Spirit” will be held in the country for the tenth time from July 26 to August 6.
About 2,500 soldiers from 15 countries will take part in the exercises – Georgia, the United States, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, Great Britain, Canada, Italy and Azerbaijan.
The United States will send about 700 soldiers to Georgia for exercises, the media report.
According to the statement of the Georgian Ministry of Defense, the goal of the military exercises is “to improve the operational compatibility between the armed forces of the participating countries and to strengthen regional cooperation in the field of security.”
