“One thing occurred to the cherries”: The producers haven’t any clarification

Cherries, along with strawberries, are a favorite spring fruit of many. But we eat them less and less because of the high prices in the markets and in the shops. However, Zivoslav Karaklajic, a fruit grower from Brestovica, says that the price has never been lower, that something happened with the cherry and that someone from the Ministry should explain it. He notes that the prices are half lower than in the previous year.
Zivoslav Karaklajic told RTS that the yield is good, but that the price has never been lower.
– It’s just sad to have cherries today. Exports are not working, something is happening. The markets are full of quantum, a very small number of buyers are working on the purchase, something has happened – he points out.
According to him, before the harvest, all experts from the Ministry praise cherries, raspberries…
– Someone from the Ministry should come out now and say what happened. We ordinary people don’t know that. When you invite someone to vote for you, you now need to call them and tell them what happened. If exports do not start, it will be a catastrophe, and now it is already a catastrophe – says Karaklajić.
Harvesting a kilogram of cherries, Karaklajić notes, costs up to 80 dinars, and “cherries range from 50 to 120, 130 dinars”.
When asked what the situation is like when compared to the previous year, he says that it is terrible.
– Prices are half lower. The cherries are harvested briefly. God forbid some rains, all the cherries are cracking. It is an expensive fruit, quite healing and healthy. A specific fruit species is a very poor species this year as well – says Karaklajić.
There is a picker, if paid correctly, he states.
This fruit grower from the vicinity of Grocka claims that at the moment it is not possible to live nicely from fruit growing, but that last year was better. He says that there are new plantations, but there are no more young fruit growers.
– It is not so easy to live in the countryside. The people do not return just like that. Is the child of a minister, for example, engaged in agriculture? We work in the village for 20 hours, there is a lot of work. It’s nice to take pictures in front of ripe cherries. But there is a lot of pain, trembling, frost, rain, fertilization around them. It takes a lot of invested work, knowledge and money – concluded Karaklajić.
