A court in North Macedonia has denied a Serbian extradition request for a former Kosovar Albanian arrested on an international warrant for alleged war crimes.
The Skopje court says it checked all the records and found that the conditions for the extradition of the man identified only as TM were not met.
Kosovo and Serbia have both threatened that relations with neighboring North Macedonia will deteriorate depending on their decision on the former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army. Kosovo does not want him to be extradited.
Serbia claims the man arrested last month committed atrocities against civilians during Serbia’s 1999 crackdown on ethnic Albanian rebels in Kosovo. He denies the allegations and fights against extradition.
If Wednesday’s ruling is appealed, the final decision on extradition rests with the Justice Minister of North Macedonia.
