The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic announced that Ukrainian soldiers were fleeing Donbas en masse.
According to the press service of the People’s Militia of the DNR, 244 soldiers left the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the past two weeks.
– The largest number left the 36th Marine Brigade, which is in positions in the direction of Mariupol. 44 Marines deserted – it is stated in the announcement.
According to the People’s Militia, the causes of desertion could be the aggravation of the situation in the region in the increased danger of the resumption of large-scale military actions. At the same time, as it is added, almost 20 percent of Ukrainian military deserters are officers, and some are even platoon commanders.
Military experts have repeatedly pointed to the deplorable state of the Ukrainian army. Russian Major General in the Reserve Vladimir Bogatyrev said earlier that the real situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is critical, especially in the units that are on the contact line in Donbas.
The expert pointed to the lack of weapons, ammunition and food, as well as poor financing. According to him, most cases of desertion are recorded in the Armed Forces in eastern Ukraine.
Let us remind you, the situation in Donbas worsened at the end of February. The exchange of fire is recorded in the region practically every day, including with the use of mortars and grenade launchers. The parties accuse each other of worsening the situation.
As of July 27 last year, additional measures to ensure a truce are in force.
