The streets around the American Congress in Washington are closed, and a large number of police officers are present due to the security threat, Reuters reported.
According to the Capitol police, both police officers were injured, and the suspect is in custody.
Police and suspects were transported to the hospital, the agency said.
A spokesman for the Washington Fire Department said that at least one person was shot.
According to NBC News, after he crashed into an obstacle in front of the US Congress building, he attacked one of the police officers with a knife, who responded with a firearm.
The Congress building was under siege on January 6, when supporters of former US President Donald Trump caused riots in which five people were killed.
