Zaharova: Don’t put strain on Serbia over Kosovo
Russia calls not to force an agreement on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, said the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marija Zaharova.
– We believe that the attempts to force the so-called final normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, to accelerate it with some artificial deadlines – are destructive. The most important thing is to find a stable, sustainable option that will, among other things, be accepted by the public – said Zaharova.
According to her, the process of resolving the Kosovo problem without the realization of already reached agreements is doomed to a standstill.
– We support the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina with the aim of resolving the Kosovo problem under the auspices of the European Union, which must conscientiously and impartially perform its mediation functions, which were entrusted to it by the UN General Assembly decision – the spokeswoman pointed out.
She added that Russia is also worried about the radicalization of the rhetoric of Kosovo Albanians after the early parliamentary elections.
– The rhetoric of Kosovo Albanians after winning the extraordinary parliamentary so-called ‘elections’ is worrying – said Zaharova.
According to her, Moscow hopes that EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak will succeed in making progress in resolving the issue between Belgrade and Pristina.
