YOUNG PEOPLE ARE RETURNING TO THE VILLAGE! Danijela and Nedeljko selected to make a dwelling from elevating sheep

While the state is trying to enable and make life easier for young couples in the countryside, and return many to deserted rural areas, the Grujić couple from Rusko Selo is proving that an idyllic family life in the countryside is possible. Sheep breeding will be their new preoccupation in agricultural production.

– In February, the provincial competition “Helping young people in rural areas” was announced, and we applied for the purchase of 30 breeding heads of sheep of the Il de France breed. Previously, we inquired well on the Internet and with acquaintances who already raise sheep. We found that il de frans is the best breed, especially when it comes to sales – says Daniela, an employee of a rural agricultural pharmacy.

– We received one million and 200 thousand dinars from the province. We bought a rotary mower, and in the meantime we applied for the city competition, when we achieved a 50 percent return and received a little over 60 thousand dinars. We did not expect that this year would be so good for us – says Danijela with satisfaction.

Confident of success

Although she and her husband Nedeljko, a truck driver, decided to engage in animal husbandry for the first time, she has no doubts about the good business they decided to start.

– We already have the land, from this year soybeans, then corn, wheat and clover. We also raise pigs, and we will keep the sheep in a rented facility, specially intended for their accommodation, not far from our house. We sign the contract tomorrow, and the deadline for delivery of sheep is 40 days – adds full of optimism.

The Grujićs do not hesitate to do several jobs at once. They are young and full of enthusiasm, and they will also get help from Nedeljko’s parents. They are in the process of obtaining non-refundable funds for the purchase of a house with a garden, and they do not care about the heir in the agricultural farm. Vukasin’s four-year-old son is already ready for work victories, while expertly posing in front of the camera.

Investing in rural youth

For the first time this year, the city of Kikinda has allocated funds in the budget to support young people in rural areas through the Program of Support to Agriculture and Rural Development. One million and 400 thousand dinars were set aside for that purpose – says Dalibor Oličkov, head of the Department of Agriculture of the City of Kikinda

– If there is great interest, next year we will allocate more funds. Young people whose shelter is in one of the nine villages of the Kikinda municipality, who own less than 10 hectares of land and are less than 40 years old, can apply for this measure. The amount of funds is up to 140 thousand dinars maximum, up to 50 percent of the value of the investment. The obtained funds can be directed towards the procurement of equipment for livestock, connected mechanization, construction of facilities in livestock … – explains Olickov.
