Poland has sent its police officers to help Lithuania protect the border with Belarus, Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski said.
– The Government of Lithuania addressed us with a request for help. You will help ensure the security of the borders of Lithuania, which is our strategic partner – he said addressing the police.
The Minister is convinced that illegal migrants believe that “the border of the European Union is open”.
– The border of the European Union is not open. The government of Lithuania and the government of Poland will not allow mass violations of the border – he said.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Police, Jaroslav Simczak, mentioned that in 2016, police officers from Poland were hired to guard the border between Hungary and Serbia after the migration crisis.
Recently, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland have been reporting an increase in the number of detained illegal migrants on the border with Belarus. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has stated that Minsk will no longer prevent the influx of illegal migrants into EU countries – due to Western sanctions, there is neither money nor strength for that.
