When you really feel unwell, apply the following tips
Large fluctuations in temperature are most difficult for chronic patients to tolerate, but they can also affect people who are completely healthy.
Sudden changes in the time when the temperature difference is between 15 and 20 degrees, which is the case these days, affect people’s health.
– Chronic patients are most affected by such changes – says Dr. Slavica Niković.
She states that large temperature differences often give certain symptoms in healthy people, so there is increased fatigue, sudden changes in mood, lack of concentration, lethargy, irritability and insomnia.
– Physical symptoms that occur are headache, migraine, nausea, dizziness, rheumatic ailments and muscle aches. In chronic patients who have cardiovascular problems, the condition of the underlying disease may worsen in the form of accelerated heart rate and increased blood pressure. With the digestive organs, the signs of gastritis and abdominal pain increase in the case of ulcers on the stomach and duodenum – says Dr. Niković.
He says that a sudden change in the weather can sometimes cause a higher frequency of heart attacks and strokes, colds, inflammation of the respiratory organs and asthma attacks in the elderly and chronic cardiovascular patients.
She advises that in case of headache, migraine, mood swings, anxiety and irritability, it is necessary to avoid stressful situations and greater effort.
– The change of weather adversely affects the nervous system, so you should set aside a certain part of the day to relax. It is necessary to eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible in order for the body to be cleansed of toxins and supplied with useful substances. In case of sleep disorders, you should not take large and heavy meals before going to bed – Dr. Niković points out.
She states that in people who suffer from low blood pressure, due to the change of time, there can be an even more pronounced drop in blood pressure.
How to relieve symptoms?
– It is recommended to consume a larger amount of liquid, water, but not cold, as well as lukewarm unsweetened teas and diluted natural juices – says Dr. Niković.
It also warns of high blood pressure.
– Regardless of whether there is already a problem with high blood pressure or it is just a current problem, in case of a change of weather, it is important to pay attention to all habits related to diet and physical activity. It is necessary to get rid of foods rich in fat, avoid cigarettes and caffeine – the doctor advises.
She states that almost everyone reacts to oscillations in temperature, but that they are the most difficult to tolerate in chronic patients, and adds that among chronic patients, meteorologists are most often rheumatic, asthmatic, heart patients and hypertensives.
– Humidity of the air affects asthmatics, high air pressure affects hypertensives, and cold and windy weather affects heart patients – the doctor explains.
Dr. Niković points out that, unlike chronic patients, due to changes in the weather, relatively healthy people often do not know how to say why they have problems.
She points out that it is very important to provide ourselves with enough sleep when there are large changes in weather and temperature differences.
– A tired person is more sensitive to everything, even to changes in the weather. That is why healthy sleep is very important for our body. In sleep, substances are secreted that lower the level of stress hormones, regulate blood pressure, and strengthen all defense mechanisms. If you stay out of the house for a long time during the day, dress in layers, taking care that the clothes are made of natural materials and adapted for both colder and warmer weather during the day – the doctor advises.
