We’re fastidiously monitoring the scenario, we encourage Belgrade and Pristina to proceed the dialogue
The United States of America invited Belgrade and Pristina to continue the dialogue, since the meeting of the two parties in Brussels on Thursday ended without results, Voice of America reports.
Ned Price, a spokesman for the State Department, told a news conference that Washington was closely monitoring the situation.
“As far as we know, the talks are continuing. We, in partnership with the EU, are following this closely and we encourage both sides to use the dialogue effectively and we suggest that they continue it,” Price said.
The State Department official specified that Washington fully supports the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, stating that it is necessary to advance the discussion on the normalization of relations based on the assumption of “mutual recognition”.
Price also said that the US administration’s special rapporteur for the Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, along with the US ambassador to the European Union, Mark Gittenstein, are closely monitoring the talks between Pristina and Belgrade.
“I can assure you that the dialogue has the full attention of American officials. It is an issue that Secretary Blinken himself has been dealing with for a long time. It is a priority that includes our entire organization, both on the ground and in the USA,” said Price.
EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borelj said earlier that the two sides did not reach an agreement regarding license plates and entry-exit documents, but that the talks continue.
President Aleksandar Vučić said that it was a difficult day in Brussels, but also that he will refrain from all comments. “I will continue to fight for peace and stability, I will address the public in the next 48 hours,” said Vučić.
