The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, visited the works on the construction of the compressor station Velika Plana.
It is a station that is being built within the project of building a gas pipeline from the border with Bulgaria to the border with Hungary.
– I am satisfied because we have been waiting for many years to work on such important infrastructure projects – said Vučić.
He pointed out that this is a great thing for Serbia, as well as that Bulgaria is finishing its part of the work when our country is doing the same.
In Velika Plana, 1,500 workers work on this project every day. As the president pointed out, the only projects in Serbia where there are more workers are Belgrade on the water and the Moravian corridor.
Vučić also talked to the workers on the construction site.
– We lack workers – both carpenters and butchers, but also workers on construction sites, of which there are currently as many as 80,000 in Serbia at the moment – he said.
The compressor station consists of a lower and an upper side. In the upper part there is high pressure gas, and in the lower part there are auxiliary facilities. Compressor units are the heart of this station, the main contractor explained.
– I am proud that we are on the territory of the municipality of Žabari, where we will soon open a compressor station. To bring people closer to what this is for, I can say that without these facilities we would not be able to have a balanced gas pressure, we would have great losses and we would not be able to bring it to the north of Serbia and the border with Hungary. We are solving a problem that is huge for every country. What will be important in the next period is, first of all, energy stability, then food and only in the third place finances – that will be crucial in the next 20 years – said Vučić.
He reminded that electricity was also discussed at the “Open Balkan” conference yesterday.
– We have by far the cheapest electricity in the region, it is more expensive in other countries and salaries are lower than in our country. Our needs will grow, we now consume more electricity over the summer than before. I am saying this to explain to you that our needs for gas are also growing – the President pointed out.
– We have to make sure we have energy. What will we do if we import 30-40 percent? We can build everything, but I have to explain to the citizens so that they understand how important it is – said Vučić.
Bocan-Kharchenko: “Everything is going according to plan, it will be done on time”
– We have a lot of feelings, a lot of hope. As for me, I am very satisfied. This compressor station shows that the interconnector pipeline project is being developed in full compliance with the contracts. Now there is no longer any worm of doubt that everything will be over on time. Serbia will get gas and become a country for transporting gas to Hungary, which means an increase in income, but also an improvement in the economic and political status of the country. There is nothing political here, only economic – said the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Serbia, Aleksandar Bocan-Kharchenko.
