Two members of the police defended themselves by remaining silent throughout the interrogation

Two other members of the police who were arrested in the same action will be taken to the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, according to the announcement of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade.

S. T. and M. K. defended themselves at the hearing by remaining silent, that is, they used their legal right not to present a defense.

S. T. is charged with the criminal offense of abuse of office, and M. K. that he encouraged her to commit that crime.

After the hearing, the prosecution proposed to the judge for the preliminary proceedings of the High Court in Belgrade to order the suspects into custody so that they would not influence the witnesses and that they would not repeat the criminal offense in a short period of time.

It is suspected that the police officer of the Directorate for International Operational Cooperation S. T. On August 5, at the request of M. K. performed checks through the Interpol databases for a person from a criminal environment, whether an international warrant was issued for him, about which she informed M. K.

He passed that information on to a person from the criminal environment with whom he was in direct contact because, as is suspected, he was together with R. L. (those deprived of liberty in Novi Sad) provided physical security for a long period of time. They received money and gifts in return.

A search of a rented apartment in Novi Sad that was used by M. K. and R. L. and which is near the residential address of a person from a criminal environment, weapons in illegal possession and narcotic drugs were found.

Four members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were arrested for abuse of office. It is suspected that they used their official status in order to check the status of a person from a criminal environment, and two of them also provided security for that person.
