On Monday, June 28, on Vidovdan, Kruševac celebrates its jubilee – 650 years since the founding of the city. The celebration of the great jubilee is a combination of historical, cultural and sports manifestations, from remembering what Kruševac used to be, to the present day, when it has become a modern city. The central celebration of Vidovdan and the jubilee – 650 years since the founding of the city of Krusevac on June 28 begins with the Holy Hierarch’s Liturgy in the Church of Lazarica, a liturgy and commemoration at the Monument to Kosovo Heroes.

At 9 am, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will lay a wreath of flowers at the monument to Kosovo’s heroes in Krusevac and visit the Diagnostic Center, and Lazar’s capital will be visited in the afternoon by Serbian Patriarch Porphyry and numerous delegations from the country and abroad. A session of the Government of Serbia will be held in the morning hours of June 28 in the City Building of Krusevac.

Monument to Prince Lazarus
The four-meter statue of Prince Lazar placed on a 10-meter pedestal was designed and made by the authors Boris Stajkovac and Tomo Komatina.
– Conceived with his hand on a lowered sword and in military armor with a shield and a sharp look raised high towards Kosovo, but also towards our future, our Holy Prince Lazar seems to be telling us to defend our religion, our language and culture, our ancestors and heritage, but also of our descendants and the future begins exactly where he laid down his life in defense of all that – the authors described. The monument in the center of the newly named park at the Old Airport will be unveiled at 2 p.m.

In the evening, the first Serbian opera “In the Morning” by Stanislav Binicki will be performed on the plateau in front of Simic’s house near the Square of Kosovo Heroes.

On Vidovdan, on the occasion of marking six and a half centuries since its founding, Kruševac will host representatives of sister cities and numerous guests. At the solemn session of the City Assembly, Vidovdan awards are presented, and this year’s Vidovdan Award, the biggest recognition of Krusevac, will be taken by the Prime Minister of the Government of Serbia, Ana Brnabić.
