The territory of the capital of Australia (ACT) entered its first lockdown on Thursday afternoon, which will last at least a week, ie at least until the evening of August 19. The decision was made at lightning speed, as soon as the first case of delta strain of coronavirus in the local community after more than a year was recorded.
Just a few hours later, it was announced that three more people were infected, all of whom were close contacts of the “zero” patient.
– This is the most risky situation for public health in the Territory in the last year, if not since the beginning of the pandemic. We had to react immediately and there was no other way to try to stop the spread of the virus than to declare strict measures of closure – said the head of ministers in the ACT government, Andrew Barr.
Local authorities in Canberra were particularly concerned that a man in his twenties, who was positive on Thursday morning, had spent the previous four days moving within the community. As it is stated, a young man from Gangalen in the north of the city, visited dozens of places all over Canberra in that period.
He was in nightclubs in Civic and Bradon, in a church in Voden, in a bakery and supermarket in Manuca, in shops in Mitchell and Fishwick, and in a pharmacy in Kingston.
For residents of Canberra, the regulations apply as in other countries that are under lock and key. Therefore, leaving the house is allowed due to going to the grocery store, receiving or providing health care, going to work if the person works at the workplace of necessary importance, as well as due to recreation.
Also, masks are mandatory every time you leave the house, whether you stay indoors or outdoors.
Who can enter ACT?
Citizens of New South Wales, including cities and towns in the immediate vicinity of the capital, are strictly forbidden to enter Canberra. Only people from Quinbian, Gugong, Gerabombera, Ganning, Collector, Marambeitman, Jas, Valaru, Bangedor, Bradbo, Uriara and Binalong will be able to enter Canberra.
However, it will also apply to them that they must have one of those justified reasons that also apply to the citizens of Canberra leaving their homes.
