The President of the German Bundestag, Wolfgang Schaeuble, expressed concern because the citizens of Germany of Russian origin watch “RT” television, because, as he says, Russia’s goal is to manipulate them. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called his statement the own goal of the year.
– Through the television ‘Rasha Tudej’, Moscow is trying to manipulate Germans of Russian origin in a targeted manner – he said in an interview for the “Bild” newspaper.
As he said, such a category of citizens “previously voted for conservatives, and now that group of citizens has in many ways become the basis for the support of the right-wing party ‘Alternative for Germany'”.
At the same time, Schaeuble believes that “Rasha Tudej” is a “propaganda channel”.
– We should seriously discuss this topic with Russia – he added.
In his opinion, that could affect the elections for the Bundestag, which will be held on September 26.
In this regard, a spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that Schauble’s statement is an act of censorship.
“Own goal of the year. “If politicians want to protect their citizens from the media because they do not want to change their moods, and not on the basis of the law, that is an act of censorship and recognition of sympathy for propaganda,” she wrote on her Telegram channel.
She added that “citizens of Russian origin speak Russian and that, without asking the Bundestag, they watch channels that ‘influence their moods’ for personal pleasure, and not guided by the conjuncture.”
