House of the Dragon will cover the events 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, one of the most popular books of epic fantasy, which was turned into a series last decade and broke records for viewership and popularity.
It follows the fate of the Targaryens, a noble family whose members have the power to control dragons.
The series will be a direct adaptation of Martin’s 2018 novel Fire and Blood, in which the Targaryens begin to fight each other for dominance and start a bloody civil war.
“We begin the series at the absolute height of the wealth and power of the Targaryen family.” At the moment when they have the most dragons,” Kendall pointed out at a panel during San Diego Comic-Con.
King Viserys sits on the Iron Throne – the most dangerous chair in all of Westeros, as ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. However, problems arise when it comes to the question of who will succeed him…
“I will not be made to choose between my brother and my daughter,” Viserys, who is by all accounts a good and just king with a sense of justice, says in the trailer.
“He is a good king who regards his position as a duty, not a privilege that belongs to him.” A duty to administer justice, keep the peace and occasionally do boring things like building roads and sewers. “No one wants to watch a series about King Viserys building roads,” Martin points out, which is enough to conclude that the good king will not fare well.
The peak of Targaryen power is of course reflected in the dragons, of which there are as many as 17.
“It was important to us to make them not only different in terms of appearance, but also in their behavior and the way they bond with their riders,” Kondal explained, adding that every detail was prepared.
The pilot episode of Dragon House will premiere on August 21st on HBO.
