Five people were killed and at least 20 injured when a man walked into a coffee shop in northern Serbia in the early hours of Saturday morning and sprayed customers with automatic rifle fire, security officials said.

The suspect was arrested after the attack, which took place at 1:40 a.m. local time (7:40 p.m. Friday ET) in the village of Zitiste near the town of Zrenjanin about 50 miles north of Belgrade.

The Serbian Interior Ministry said in a statement that a man who was only identified as ZS in his late 30s first killed his wife and another woman, “after which he continued to shoot other citizens who were in the cafe”.

There was no motive for the shooting allegedly investigated.

The Serbian news agency B92 quoted Interior Minister Nebojša Stefanović as saying that the man did not have a license to use the weapon and that the attack was probably motivated by “jealousy” without going into detail.

A local resident who has not been identified told The Associated Press that the suspect was “a calm and quiet man”.

“They were divorced, he probably couldn’t stand it, they had a son together,” said the resident.

The cats chosen for the cafe are sociable and get along well with people. During my visit, I could see that the cats were comfortable and very happy while they played with toys and ricocheted off the cat-friendly furniture.

Setting up a trip to Crumbs is easy, but requires some advance planning. You reserve online and pay a fee of $ 22 per person, saving 75 minutes of cat time. During this time, you can play, take photos, pet or even talk to any of the cats that you like. Places fill up pretty quickly, especially on weekends. On arrival, you can purchase drinks from a selection of espresso drinks, iced coffee and teas. The proceeds from the sale of drinks are used to care for the cats. In LA, Crumbs is partnered with Open space Just a few blocks away – that’s where orders are placed and delivered.

Crumbs is designed to encourage interaction – a small nook with soft, fluffy pillows encourages sitting on the floor and mixing cats and people. There are around 15 to 20 cats out and about at any given time. While some are resting or sleeping, a wide variety of toys keep them energetic cozy.
