After a turbulent period that is behind her, Maja Marijana returns to the scene stronger than ever.
She decided to put an end to everything ugly that happened to her, so in an honest interview, she told everything about domestic violence, revealed unpleasant situations from the performance, and touched on the success story of her godparents Sasa and Dejan Matic.
– I will never forget one wedding, several famous singers sang for three days without stopping and in the end no one paid us. We had to sing non-stop, just like a little sleep, five or six, maybe seven hours… Tip ?! What tip ?! That was a long time ago, 29-30 years ago, a lot of ugly things happened there, we didn’t even get a fee, we sang for free for three days. The bride and groom fled from the village, over a field, I guess. We were all left with no fees, musicians and singers, ten or twelve, people ran away – she described one of the worst stalls she remembers, but she did not want to reveal which village it was, or who the colleagues who hung out for the fee were together with her:
– And the worst, on the contrary, some people in that village are in Serbia, but I won’t say which one it is… The waiter under that tent poured hot coffee on me, suddenly, I had the impression that he deliberately turned the coffee tray all over me, it burns me, I say: “What are you doing?” and some old grandfather is also there under the tent wherever I sit, he stops and pushes me… My colleagues will recognize themselves when they read, I would not speak on their behalf. Just the famous musicians were there and we agreed to finish that wedding to finally start when we realized we were made, the villagers gathered there with poles and like whoever allowed us to pack, I was with Dad because I was still going to high school, so my father drove me to performances, they punctured our tires and my dad’s too, I’ll never forget that. The musicians were very famous, those who read it will remember, but I would not like to reveal who it was.
The singer claims that she never had an indecent offer, and that the men were afraid to approach her.
– I have never had indecent offers, I take a stand and guard, and I have never gone anywhere alone. I had protection. With her husband or her band. I come, do the work and back. They don’t even have the courage, I frown and I’m sorry. It happened even later, when I became a famous singer, that the boss ran away, did not pay. That happened to me in Rijeka. Four players and three musicians. No boss, escaped. You call him, he doesn’t answer. It happened several times that the boss ran away. He simply won’t pay. Not just me, it happened to many.
Maja’s songs such as “He was a good friend of mine”, “What is an apple tree among the wrestlers” and “I’m not a wandering girl” are still sung today. – My daughter, who is 19 years old, tells me that today’s youth also sing Gianni’s hits. He says: “What’s the matter, everyone listens to it, so we listen to your songs…” It’s wonderful, when those wonderful songs survive, like Silvana singing. It is not said in vain: “From Silvana to Nirvana.”
However, she no longer wants to talk about the domestic violence she has experienced, but she has a message for all women who find themselves in such a situation:
– I don’t like that topic. First, it passed, eight years ago, it is constantly dragging on. I just want to remember the beautiful moments. The only thing I can say, not for myself, for all women, first, the law must be much stronger, I am not talking about myself, I am talking about the facts, the law must be much stricter, it is extremely loose. Secondly, in our climate, when a woman wants to divorce, if she doesn’t work, she stays on the street or ends up in an obituary. Then, people simply look at their work, look at whether there are silicones, whether they were in reality, but when they need help, then they look at their work, how women can protect themselves – on the first try they should go, amputation of the situation. There are also women who are aggressive, men who are vulnerable, but women are more vulnerable. Manipulation is an apology without change. No one will fix or change, a shot in the butt, that’s the only cure.
Many do not know that Maja Marijana, in a way, discovered her brothers Sasa and Dejan Matic, even though she is too modest to brag about it. Still, she admits that they appeared with her for the first time in a show.
– I don’t want to attribute any merits to myself, if it weren’t for me, someone else would have found themselves instead of me because the two of them are really giga mega and only their quality is crucial for their success. They baptized my younger daughter, they know how much I love them and their parents are wonderful people. They last a long time and as long as they are engaged in this business, they will last. Sasha sang in one club and already had his audience and team as an anonymous person. I didn’t even know he had a brother. I didn’t discover Sasha, he broke through on his own with his effort and quality. He once followed Ana Bekuta in the show “A što ne bi može”, and the Matić brothers appeared with me for the first time, yes. My daughter’s father hung out with them, my other husband, Milica’s dad, hung out with them and that’s how it turned out, when you hang out with someone, you see, you visit, when they invited me from Pink TV, then that show “And what it couldn’t be “on Pink, the two of them, Sasha and Dejan, appeared with me, I sang Ceca’s song” Vodka with consolation “and there were those accompanying male vocals.
