Seoul’s initiative to reunite the separated households of the 2 Koreas
Unification Minister Kwon Young-se, in charge of inter-Korean affairs, openly presented the offer at a press conference, saying that Seoul is ready to consider Pyongyang’s proposals when deciding on the date, place, agenda, and format of the talks, reports Reuters.
“We hope that relevant officials from the two sides will meet in person as soon as possible for a frank discussion on humanitarian issues, including the issue of separated families,” Kwon said.
The Korean peninsula was divided after the war that lasted from 1950 to 1953 and many families were left separated.
The two Koreas have organized such temporary mergers before.
