RTS :: “Fiona” hit Canada
Thousands of residents of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland are without power and telecommunications, and it may take weeks to restore the original state.
Remediation of the consequences, damage assessment and reestablishment of telecommunications and electricity supply are underway.
The assessment of the damage caused by “Fiona” will be completed in the coming days, maybe even a week, officials announced.
The storm hit Canada on Saturday, and officials say it will take a long time to repair the damage Fiona caused.
The strongest storm ever hit Canada’s east coast at hurricane strength, destroying homes, bridges, roads, prompting evacuations, uprooting trees and disrupting telecommunications and power supplies.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the military would participate in clearing the rubble and terrain, noting that it would require a major effort due to the extent of the damage.
Despite the intensity, no people were killed or seriously injured in the storm, because the citizens followed the instructions of the local authorities.
“Fiona” had a speed of 170 kilometers per hour.
