Aleksandar Jovicic stated in the text of his resignation that he is aware that due to the situation he is currently in, his remaining in the position of the mayor can only be an aggravating circumstance for the functioning of the municipality and to the detriment of the citizens.
He pointed out that the interest of the municipality and the citizens was always in the first place, which is the main reason for his resignation.
“I have a long and difficult battle ahead of me in order to defend my own part, as well as the part of my family. I did not hope that I would ever have to enter such a battle, but it is impossible from this skin. The situation I am in is for the most part the fruit of my recklessness and belief in certain people who obviously did not think well of me, “Jovicic wrote.
He stated that he was sorry that he betrayed the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, with his recklessness, a man who, as he says, had great trust in him.
“In the coming period, through the struggle to defend my own part, as well as the part of my family, I will equally try to convince the entire public that Aleksandar Jovicic is not a criminal, as some media marked him, and that he always worked honestly and honestly in the interest of citizens. .
It’s Aleksandar Jovicic arrested on June 3 with seven other associates and construction inspectors on suspicion of facilitating illegal construction in the municipality.
At the request of the prosecution, the court ordered his detention for up to 30 days in order not to influence the witnesses who should be examined during the investigation.
