With Radmila Misić and Slavoljub Dimić last Saturday
It is unlikely that there is a household in Sydney whose family party or celebration has not been sung by Savo Radović in the past three decades. Since starting a new life on the Fifth Continent in 1993, the great artist has inspired our community with his lavish musical talent.
The outbreak of the pandemic greatly disrupted the compass on the music scene as well, so that Savo “disappeared” from sight in a certain way in the past period. However, there are places for such a bunch of music at any time and on any occasion. The leaders of the Serbian Center from Bonirig also felt that, so in the last few months, Savo has become a frequent guest at music gatherings in the garden of the largest Serbian club.
Last Saturday, Savo sang and entertained the guests at the Center with his musically savvy colleagues Radmila Misić and her husband Slavoljub Dimić. On that occasion, we talked to Sava about his “resurrection” on the music scene, and along the way we touched on everything a little bit.
During a performance at Bonirig’s Garden, did we notice that you were occupied by your old fans?
– Every weekend is more successful and fuller, which means that the audience respects me and appreciates my quality of singing. I am glad that almost every time I perform, my fans come from other backgrounds, such as Vulongong. In short, I felt that the audience wanted me and the music, and I wanted them too.
The pandemic and restrictions separated you from the domestic audience and disrupted all events.
– The pandemic has disrupted a lot of things, including the issue of all performances, from weddings, through baptisms, to pub and club performances. But, thank God, I am slowly getting into business and making new arrangements for the performance. Although the lost cannot be made up. But what is there is. God of health and there will be everything.

Did you use the pandemic days productively, was something new being created?
– At the time of the pandemic and this absurd virus, although there were no appearances, I did not stop planning new projects. There was no wasting time. We must work, as well as live, regardless of the misfortunes that befell us. So, in agreement with my hitmaker Ljubo Keselj, I agreed and recorded a new song. I already had the text, and Ljubo sent me the matrix. Here, in a studio in Sydney, I made an arrangement, played and mixed. So, one song is ready for now, and the others are in preparation. God willing, at the end of the year, everything will be finalized and published for BN TV, my old publishing house.
Remind the audience of your music career, how did it all start?
– It all started at an early age at auditions, public appearances and festivals. At that time, the rule was that if you won one of the first three places, you had a place in the next competition, and the crown of everything was the cafe. Singing in the tavern was the largest school for singers and musicians. You had to know all genres of music, and sevdah, which is the most demanding, was obligatory. You simply had to know all the old-town and tavern hits, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to sing in taverns. Then came the first recording of the cassette, then the CD, and so far I have recorded five albums.
Memories of the beginnings of water in pre-war times, in Sarajevo…
– In addition to music, I worked in an insurance company, and in Sarajevo I also finished economics. In addition to singing, I also tried my hand at radio and television, where I worked as a host of night programs and television music shows. At that time, I acquired the nickname “King of the Tavern”. Today, only beautiful memories remain. The war interrupted everything, I was forced to leave my hometown and go to the white world. I started a new life in Germany and after some more destinations in 1993 I arrived in Australia. My life journey is one big novel, this is only short – says Savo Radović.
Savo Radović
Singer and presenter
It is well known that, in addition to the beautiful voice of Savo Radović, he also enhances the wedding and other joys when he is a guest with appropriate speeches.
– I always try if someone invites me to a party and to lead a program. I prepare everything in time and do my best. Because my goal is for both the hosts and I to be satisfied. Unfortunately, it happens that many people try to take the microphone at weddings and sing and lead the program, so the end result is as it is. I push on and I try to do the job with the best I can – says Savo.
Sons greatest treasure
What does success and wealth in life mean to you?
– Man’s wealth is not represented by money and material things. For me, health and family have always come first. My greatest wealth is my sons. Healthy, educated people that I am infinitely proud of. The younger son, who was born here, is a lawyer with a master’s degree and a bar exam, while the older son is a mechanical engineer. They are my greatest treasure and happiness, my life.
