Works completed more than half a year ahead of schedule

The Russian company “RZD International” completed the construction works on the construction of the longest railway viaduct in Serbia in the navigable part of the Danube and the “Chortanovci” tunnel more than half a year before the planned deadlines.

The viaduct and tunnel are part of the first high-speed railway Belgrade – Budapest.

Work on the construction of the viaduct began on November 1, 2017, its length is three kilometers, and the height of individual pillars is about 26 meters.

The viaduct was designed at the exit from the Chortanovci tunnel in front of Sremski Karlovci and stretches in the flooded part of the Danube.

The Chortanovci tunnel is two parallel pipes with a total length of 2.2 kilometers.

Work on its construction began in September 2017 and was completed seven months ahead of schedule.

In April, both facilities successfully passed the inspection of the Ministry of Construction for compliance with project solutions.

Prior to the commissioning of the facilities, works will be performed on the installation of the catenary, the upper machine of the track, and pre-commissioning tests will also be carried out, which are planned for the fall.

RZD International has been modernizing and building railways in Serbia since 2014, within the framework of the Agreement signed in 2013.

The total value of the contract is 941 million dollars, of which 800 million is financed from the state export credit, which was approved by the Government of Russia to the Government of Serbia.

The reconstruction of the railways Belgrade – Pancevo, Resnik – Valjevo has already been completed, and 27 diesel-powered trains of Russian production have been delivered to Serbia.

The section Stara Pazova – Novi Sad is 40.44 kilometers long on the Belgrade – Budapest line, for train speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour.

On the eve of the ceremony marking the completion of construction works, President Vučić met with representatives of “RZD International” in Čortanovci.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Russia to Serbia, Aleksandar Bocan-Kharchenko, the General Director of RZD, Oleg Belozjorov, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Tomislav Momirović, and the President of the Provincial Government, Igor Mirović.
