The prosecution examined Vladimir Rebic as a witness proposed by Papic’s defense.
He entered the prosecutor’s office and exited it at a side entrance, through the garage of the Palace of Justice, so that the journalists who were waiting for him in front could not film him.
Testimony in the investigation was closed to the public, and the hearing of the director of the police was attended by Papić’s defense attorney Branislav Tapušković, who will address the media.
The prosecution suspects Papic for the criminal offense of trafficking in influence, because, as he suspects, in April 2020, outside the procedures, he urged Marko Miljković, now suspected of organizing a criminal group, to immediately return the temporarily seized armored car.
On the same day, the vehicle was returned to Miljković.
At the end of April, in the investigation against Papić Former Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic also testified (now Minister of Defense).
At the hearing with the prosecutor, Papic denied committing the crime.
With the arrest of Papic in March, the Special Department for the Suppression of Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office began conducting evidentiary proceedings in a shortened procedure against Papic for the crime of trading in influence, for which the law threatens one to eight years in prison.
Papic’s custody was lifted April 29 and is now defending himself at large.
The Ministry of the Interior previously announced that Papić is suspected of using his position as the head of the SBPOK on April 15, 2020, to mediate not to perform the official action that should have been performed, ie he demanded from the then head of the Police Administration for the City of Belgrade to immediately return to the person who is now in custody the armored vehicle that was then temporarily taken from him.
On the same day, the vehicle was returned to Miljković, who, together with Veljko Belivuk, is under investigation as the organizer of a criminal group suspected of five murders, drug trafficking, possession and carrying of weapons, kidnappings …
