The bomb reverberated in European basketball – Pau Gasol is returning to active playing in the Barcelona jersey, where he started his professional career.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Gasol and Barcelona reached an agreement by the end of the season.
Due to numerous injuries, Gasol decided to (temporarily) end his career two years ago, and besides Barcelona, there was interest from the LA Lakers, where Pau would play together with his brother Mark.
Pau is returning to Barça at least until the end of the season, and one of the goals of his return is to gain physical fitness and form for the upcoming Olympic Games, which he plans to play.
Pau Gasol started his career in Barcelona back in 1998, before leaving for the NBA in 2001.
He first played for Memphis for seven years, and then was transferred to the LA Lakers (the exchange included rights for his brother Mark).
He played for “Jezera” for six years and was one of the key screws in winning two titles in the NBA league, in 2009 and 2010.
After the Lakers, he played two years for Chicago, three for San Antonio, and ended his NBA career in 2019 in Milwaukee, for which he played three games.
With the Spanish national team, he won three gold medals at the European Championships, one at the World Cup, he won silver twice at the Olympics and the European Championships, while he won a bronze medal three times in the biggest tournaments.
Gasol will be coached in Barça by Sarunas Jasikevicius, with whom he was a former teammate in the Catalan club, and Pau knows Nikola Mirotic well, with whom he cooperated on the field in Buls.
