US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer said on Wednesday that the essential message of his visit was the partnership between the United States and Kosovo.
– I think that the essential message is to emphasize and underline the strong and lasting nature of the partnership between the USA and Kosovo. We support Kosovo’s European perspective. We want to see Kosovo integrate into the European and Euro-Atlantic community, “Palmer said in an interview with RTK.
– We support the government’s goals in the fight against corruption and organized crime and the promotion of the rule of law. We want to be there as strong partners – the American statesman explained.
He added that he and Miroslav Lajcak, the European Union’s special representative for the Western Balkans, wanted to emphasize and underline the importance of Kosovo’s constructive engagement in the dialogue process, as well as work on full normalization of relations with Serbia to open the door to Kosovo’s European future.
Asked about the cooperation between the USA and the EU in the process of dialogue, Palmer said that they have the same goal, and that is the normalization of relations and the opening of a European perspective, reports Kosovo online.
– We work in a strong partnership. This dialogue process is led by Kosovo and Serbia themselves with the help of the EU and the strong support of the United States. I think it is a good message for Kosovo and Serbia if they see that Lajcak and I support this process side by side – said Palmer.
He added that there is no deadline for dialogue, but the longer the dialogue process, the harder it will be.
– The United States wants the agreement that will be concluded to be with mutual recognition – Palmer pointed out.
As for the JCC, Palmer said that the parties involved in the dialogue must respect all the agreements reached so far.
“The parties must respect all agreements reached. I understand that there are parameters of the Association Agreement that need to be discussed, but this should not hinder the process. I will not tell you what Kosovo should do. The so-called government. “Kosovo is deciding how to approach this issue,” Palmer said.
