Less than two weeks have passed since the previous lock of Victoria was completed, and this country has been in a new, sixth lockdown due to kovid since Thursday night. The decision was announced by Prime Minister Daniel Andrews on Thursday afternoon, after eight cases of the corona virus were registered on the territory of Victoria that day.
The hotspot broke out in the west of Melbourne, but strict restrictive measures were declared on the territory of the entire state.
– None of us wants to be in a situation to lock the state again, but the delta strain of the corona virus is spreading so fast that with only a few cases where we do not know the source of the infection, we have to make this decision. We had no alternative, except to listen to the recommendations of health experts – Andrews said after announcing the seven-day imprisonment.
So, at least until next Thursday, August 12, the usual measures will be in force: movement is allowed only within a radius of five kilometers from the place of residence, and only for the purchase of necessary groceries, going to the doctor, providing health care to others, going out for recreation or going for testing or vaccination.
Also, those who have to go to work will be able to go out because they are considered workers in positions of necessary importance, and only single people who have a nominee for visits, ie an intimate partner, can visit home. Also, masks are again mandatory, both indoors and outdoors.
Prime Minister Andrews said that even a few days of waiting could lead to the spread of the infection, which would get out of control, and that is why an immediate reaction was necessary.
Newcastle and Hunter Valley in the lockdown
The NSW government on Thursday extended locking measures to the Hunter Valley area, including the coastal cities of Newcastle, Port Stevens and Lake McVorry. Lockdown will be in effect at least until midnight on August 12, and the reason is five new cases of covids among students in three schools in these areas. Until next Thursday, the same measures will apply to Hunter and the listed cities as in Sydney, Wollongong and the Central Coast.
