The dramatic event was filmed by Harry Shimin who was taking part in a guided hiking tour in the Tien Shan Mountains.
The video shows the avalanche moving from one of the peaks and descending towards them faster and faster.
Although he says he was terrified and thought he might die when it became increasingly difficult to breathe from the amount of snow covering him, Shimin says he escaped without a scratch.
One of the members injured her knee, so she went back on horseback.
The group reached the highest point of their route when the glacier began to collapse.
“I was in this spot for a few minutes and realized I had a good place to take cover right next to me.” I know I took a huge risk by not moving immediately. I felt I was in control, but as the snow started to come down it was getting harder to breathe. At one point I thought I might die,” Šimin said.
