Mountaineers in Kosovo and Metohija are forbidden to ascend to Ljuboten
The representative of the Mountaineering Association “Kopaonik” from Leposavic, Radoljub Knezevic, told RTS that 120 mountaineers from the entire region have been waiting since last night for approval to go on a hike to Ljuboten, but that the police have blocked all approaches to Shar Mountain.
According to him, the police returned two buses with mountaineers from Uroševac this morning, which were heading towards Štrpce.
“They allegedly have information that groups of Albanians are being prepared in the mountains to provoke us,” Knezevic said, according to police officers.
Knezevic says that the police allow them to move only in the area of the “Narcis” hotel in Brezovica.
Hikers are still waiting to get permission to spend today and tomorrow on the mountain.
Planners from all over Serbia and the region regularly organize climbs to the tops of the Sharr Mountains every year on the occasion of Vidovdan, and this year they were supposed to perform the 11th action in a row. Along with the ascent, they also visit the religious and cultural sights of this part of Kosovo and Metohija.
Office for Kosovo and Metohija: Mountaineers denied freedom of movement
On the occasion of the ban on a group of mountaineers from central Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija from going on a walking tour from the Ski Center Brezovica and Strpce to Ljuboten, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija also announced itself on the highest peak of Shar Mountain.
“One group of mountaineers was blocked by the police in the Brezovica Ski Center, while the other group was stopped in two buses on the way to Strpce. This kind of restriction of freedom of movement is the most common demonstration of force and an obvious manifestation of chauvinism, because hiking tours on Shar Mountain are quite common. thing, except when the mountaineers are of Serbian nationality “, states the Office.
They appeal to the representatives of the international community in Kosovo and Metohija to react decisively in such situations.
“Because incidents, like today’s, inflict irreparable damage on attempts to build interethnic trust and divert Pristina’s efforts to deepen the interethnic gap in our southern province,” the Office said in a statement.
The Office for Kosovo and Metohija appeals to Serbian mountaineers and citizens of Strpce to be calm and not to fall prey to another obvious attempt of provocation by Pristina.
Jevtic: Shameful and inadmissible ban on climbers
The vice-president of the Serbian List, Dalibor Jevtić, assessed that this morning’s ban on climbing mountaineers on Shar Mountain is shameful and inadmissible.
Jevtic wrote on Twitter that the rights of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija from religious to sports are being revoked day by day.
He pointed out that the international community should react to the violation of freedoms
