Israeli police and Palestinians conflict in Al Aqsa Mosque
Clashes erupted during growing tensions over the possible eviction of Palestinians from their homes on land claimed by Israeli immigrants, when a large number of Israeli police officers deployed around the mosque while Muslims prayed in Al Aqsa during the month of Ramadan.
Videos from the scene of the conflict show that believers threw chairs, stones and other objects at the police, while the police responded with rubber bullets and shock bombs.
At least 53 Palestinians and six Israeli police officers were injured, Palestinian health services and Israeli police said, Reuters reports.
Al Aqsa is the third most important holy place for Muslims, and it is located on the Temple Mount, an important religious site for both Jews and Christians.
