God, nation, household and Silvio Berlusconi – the right-wing twists and turns of the previous Italian prime minister

Berlusconi, the 85-year-old leader of Force Italia, said he would run for senator in the Sept. 25 election.

“That way everyone would be happy. I’m pressed [да то учиним] from many, even outside of Forza Italia,” he told Radio Rai.

Berlusconi, who led Italy’s government three times, was expelled from the Senate in 2013 and banned from standing in general elections for six years after being convicted of tax evasion, according to the Guardian.

His party is participating in the elections as part of a coalition led by the Brothers of Italy, a right-wing party that also includes Matteo Salvini’s right-wing League.

Antonio Tajani, Berlusconi’s deputy in the party, told Corriere della Sera that any vote for the “moderate, reliable, liberal, pro-European” party was useful because it would give “balance” to the trio.

The coalition is predicted to win the election, which would likely pave the way for Giorgio Meloni, leader of the Brothers of Italy whose motto is “God, country and family,” to become Italy’s first female prime minister.
