Serbia coach Svetislav Pešić is at a press conference announced that it was his decision to leave Teodosic out of the national team for the second round of qualifications for the 2023 World Cup, as well as for the European Championship, which will be held from September 1 to 18.
“The coach clarified some things. My personal opinion is that there might be a more acceptable way to solve this problem, but that story is over. We turn to the games. What is important is that we have peace in the team and that the whole nation stands behind of these guys, behind the Serbian national team. Let’s not be, as usual, only destructive, but let’s do it the way we’ve always done it until now, which is to be together with these guys,” Danilović told reporters in Belgrade.
The first man of KSS also commented on the players’ reaction to Pešić’s decision not to count on Teodosić for the rest of the preparations.
“What I saw, and I was there almost every day in Stara Pazova, is that it was probably a surprise for the players as well, but it’s not the first time that such surprises happen. But what I saw in Pazova is that the boys they worked great and the atmosphere is great. We don’t need to complicate some things,” Danilović pointed out.
He emphasized that Serbia should go to the EP without great euphoria.
“We have very important games coming up, first of all Greece, but we are going step by step. We have these training games coming up. I expect strong games against Slovenia, as well as at the tournament in Germany. I repeat, without any great euphoria, we should go to that European Championship “Without any great euphoria, we should play against Greece and Turkey, and then we’ll think about the European Championship. I’m sure of these guys, I’m also sure of the work of coach Pešić,” Danilović said.
