The second training course for Serbian judges and prosecutors on the protection and safety of journalists was organized from June 21-22, 2021 in cooperation with the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia. The aim was to present relevant European standards and to help improve the protection of journalists and media actors.
The training raised awareness of the risks journalists are exposed to and a possible improvement in the implementation of the legal framework of the Republic of Serbia, in particular in accordance with the European Convention on Human Rights and other European standards on freedom of expression. The two-day training was based on the trainer manual developed as part of the joint action of the European Union and the Council of Europe “Freedom of Expression and Media in Serbia” (JUFREX 2), adapted to the local context of Serbia and presented by judges, prosecutors – JUFREX national certified trainer for freedom of expression.
The training was organized as part of the same action that is part of the joint European Union-Council initiative “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”, which aims to help its beneficiaries align their practice with the Council of Europe and the European Union EU standards, possibly as part of the enlargement process.
