After six victories in as many rounds of the Spanish La Liga, i.e. 10 triumphs in 10 games on all fronts, Real Madrid ended its perfect score against Osasuna.
Madrid were missing the injured Lucas Vazquez and Luka Modrić, but Karim Benzema, who missed three games due to pain in his right knee, returned to the team.
Real took the lead in the 42nd minute of the game, when Vinicius Junior scored, but Osasuna equalized five minutes after the start of the second half through Quique Garcia.
It looked like Real would still manage to get the three points when Osasuna were left with one player less on the field – in the 78th minute Garcia received a straight red card for a tackle on Benzema in the penalty area.
However, the Frenchman played the role of the tragic as he hit the crossbar from the penalty spot, and only two minutes later his goal was disallowed for offside.
Benzema seems to have serious penalty problems of late, having missed five of his last seven.
Real is no longer at its maximum performance and after six consecutive triumphs, it registered its first draw, which caused it to fall from the leading position in the table, but it has the same number of points as Barcelona, which is now the leader.
Osasuna, for whom Darko Brašanac played 69 minutes today, is now in sixth place with 13 points.
Exciting in Barcelona – four goals and two red cards
Espanyol and Valencia played a very interesting and exciting game in Barcelona, which ended without a winner – 2:2, although there were no goals in the first half.
Gabriel Paulista, assisted by Gaya, gave Valencia the lead in the 53rd minute, and Joselu and Dard turned the score around with goals in the 56th and 83rd minutes, respectively.
It seemed until the 92nd minute that Espanyol would win because, in addition to a 2:1 advantage, they also had one more player after Marcos Andre was sent off in the 85th minute.
Everything went downhill for the team from Barcelona when, in the 93rd minute, Martin Braithwaite made sure that the numerical situation on the field became even, as he earned a straight red card.
Two minutes later, a bizarre goal by the visitors’ reserve stopper Eraj Kemmert followed – the Swiss defender, intending to return a kick in front of the rival’s goal, caught the ball with the outside of his foot from a distance of about twenty meters, so that it flew over the goalkeeper of the home team and ended up in the goal for final 2:2.
Eight goals in Girona, Celta better than Betis
The players of Real Sociedad beat Girona 5:3 in a straight game. The match was opened by Sorlot, with a goal in the eighth minute, only for Riquelme and Martinez to turn things around in just five minutes, in the 23rd and 27th.
The Norwegian striker scored again and brought Sociedad equalization at halftime – 2:2.
After only three minutes of play in the second half, Castellanos restored Girona’s advantage, and Mendes in the 66th and Zubimendi in the 71st led another reversal. The final score was set by Takefusa Kubo, five minutes before the end of the regular part of the match.
Celta beat Betis 1:0 in Vigo. It only took nine minutes for Gabriel Veiga to put his team in the lead and set up a result that will remain in force until the end of the match. Betis could not equalize after Luiz Felipe received a red card in the 20th minute.
