An explosion of the colours of the decorative creeping clematis

A frequent decoration of gardens and balconies, clematis is recognizable by its magnificent large flowers of blue, purple, pink, white or red. So far, about 250 species of this perennial plant are known, which blooms from April to September and attracts various insects with its mild scent.

In the first year after planting, clematis will spend the most energy on the formation of the root system. It is not difficult to nurture this plant, if the basic rules of planting are followed.

“Clematis is looking for the most fertile soil that is specific for garden plants and, of course, fertilization. Organic fertilization is always desirable, both because of the ecological conditions and because of the plant itself, in order to thrive well. Clematis is grown in fertile, loose soil where it is very important that the root is in the shade, and that the flower and plant itself can crawl along a pergola or a ladder, it depends on what you do, but to be in the sun, of course, “he explains. Jelica Spasojevic from Rasadnik Belgrade.

He also adds that the shade of the roots is achieved by planting plants around the roots of the clematis, or next to a tree that provides shade.

“What is very important, and what many are sorry to do, is that as soon as the first buds start, they should be removed so that the plant can bend as well as possible and grow as well as possible,” Spasojevic notes.

In late autumn, the plant is cut almost to the roots and left. In the spring, it starts to grow again, and at the end of spring and the beginning of summer, it starts to bloom.

It often dries from too much moisture, and if it is planted in a place where there is not good air circulation, an ashtray is formed.

Clematis can grow from two to four meters, and can be combined with other creepers, because it does not have a dense leaf mass. It should be taken into account that the other plant does not have a highly developed root system.

If the support along which the clematis climbs is sparse, it is good to add twine between the ladders to make it thicker and so the clematis will twist more and be more lush.
