Hundreds of American Airlines flights have been canceled these days due to significant staffing and maintenance problems.
As of Sunday afternoon, 123 flights have been canceled – on Saturday, 178 on Sunday and 97 for Monday. It all happened due to a large number of sick days, maintenance problems and other personnel issues.
American Airlines told ABC News that most of the canceled flights were on A-320 and 737 aircraft, but that it might continue to cancel at least 50 to 60 flights a day until the end of June and 50 to 80 flights daily until July.
The American company announced that it will try to inform the clients about its flights in advance and will provide an opportunity to make a reservation for alternative flights through the application.
All American airlines and the Traffic Safety Administration had staffing problems, as air travel quickly jumped from a historically lowest level to approaching pre-pandemic levels.
When air travel came to a halt in March 2020, thousands of employees were offered early retirement and severance pay, but now airlines are desperate to fill these positions again.
Americans in air travel also face a shortage of staff when it comes to caterers and operators. United Airlines is desperately looking for employees to work on luggage.
Earlier this month, the acting administrator of the Travel Security Agency asked office workers to volunteer at airports for up to 45 days.
