Today, the Government of the USA handed over to the Armed Forces of BiH 21 highly mobile multi-purpose vehicles “Hamvi” with a total value of around 2,607,364 US dollars.
The Minister of Defense in the Council of Ministers, Sifet Podžić, who attended the handover in the barracks of the Armed Forces in Rajlovac today, said that out of 21 vehicles, nine were ambulances and 12 were vehicles for transporting troops.
– In addition to the previously donated 58 “hamvi” vehicles, the Armed Forces of BiH now have 79 such vehicles at their disposal and this greatly increases the mobility of our forces – said Podzic.
He announced that seven more such vehicles will be donated in the next period, which will bring the total value of the United States to the Armed Forces more than 14.3 million US dollars.
The handover of the vehicle was also attended by the US Ambassador to BiH, Eric Nelson, who expressed satisfaction that he could hand over this donation to the American people.
– We call these vehicles multi-purpose, they can move on various terrains, they can be used in peace as support to the Armed Forces. That capacity to respond to crisis situations in peacetime is something that the United States is investing in to increase those capacities. That is why the recently held exercise “Quick Response”, which we organized with the help of the National Guard of the State of Maryland, was important – said Nelson.
The Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of BiH, Senad Masovic, announced that the United States is expected to donate four new helicopters to BiH by the end of the year.
– It is about new equipment that has not been used before. These are multi-purpose helicopters that can be used as transport. For the first time, our army will be able to use helicopters in all weather conditions, regardless of whether it is day or night – said Masovic.
