TIRANA, September 12 – The publication on Wednesday of the latest study on online media in Albania from 2018 showed that some problems with online media in the country remain unchanged, e.g. B. The non-enforcement of author’s rights and the dissemination of sensational titles, while others such as Present emerging trends as dissemination of fake news.
The study is the combined product of the work of the Albanian Media Institute and the Open Society Foundation for Albania.
About 150 online and traditional media outlets in the capital took part in surveys carried out by AMI just to capture the “current picture of the online media in the country,” said AMI Director Remzi Lami during the presentation of the results, because it is a situation that changes from day to day.
During the presentation of the results, it was highlighted that one of the most pressing problems faced by online media in Albania is the rapid spread of fake news due to the inability to filter.
According to the results, Albanians, even among people in the region, are most inclined to believe fake news, mainly due to the large number of clickbait articles circulating online, competing for as many readers as possible and few take care of the content of the messages.
On the other hand, however, contemporary journalists have also highlighted media illiteracy and public ignorance as another crucial factor in the ease with which fake news is spread.
Issues cited by the online media interviewed as part of the investigation included the lack of professional staff in journalism, as well as the lack of adequate funding, the total disregard for copyright due to a lack of legal provisions, and the shady property behind a range of online media for “shady” purposes.
“One would be disaffected to believe that journalists can be trained at this point when media and communication change from day to day. However, we support a “back to basics” approach that would teach a thing or two about ethical reporting, along with the other shortcomings that Albanian journalism suffers from, “Lami said.
