In his first comments on the Taliban’s swift action in the takeover of Afghanistan, Putin spoke after meeting in Moscow with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who came on a farewell visit.
The Russian president said that he hoped that the Taliban would fulfill their promise and establish order in Afghanistan.
He pointed out that it is important in order to prevent terrorist incursions into neighboring countries.
“Fifteen kilometers to the end of North Stream 2”
After the conversation with Merkel, Putin emphasized to the journalists that there are only 15 kilometers of pipes left until the end of the “North Stream 2” underwater gas pipeline from Russia to Germany.
He said that Russia plans to fully respect its obligations on gas transit through Ukraine.
He added that Moscow is ready to extend the transit agreement with Ukraine after 2024, but that it needs more details.
